End of Year Journal Prompts

The end of the year is naturally a time of reflection.

The holiday period allows us to pause and look back on the year that has been. Reflection is the first step in self-awareness and is valuable in helping us assess what went well and what we were challenged by.

This reflective process can put your year into context, giving you a moment of clarity and calm that creates a truly mindful end to your year. It can also free you up to make some wise decisions about what you want to carry into the new year and what you want to leave behind.

Additionally, reflecting via your journal can support your wellbeing in many ways. For example, research shows a regular journaling ritual cultivates a state of mindfulness, supports emotional regulation, strengthens immune functioning, enhances communication skills, improves concentration and memory, increases self-confidence, and supports in healing from traumatic events.

Support your wellbeing and consciously end your year with these eight powerful journal prompts:

  • What three words would I use to describe my year?

  • What am I most proud of myself for doing / achieving in the past year?

  • What challenged me most?

  • What small things did I enjoy most in my day to day life?

  • In what ways did I take care of myself this year?

  • In what ways did I nurture my relationships?

  • What are my personal and professional lessons from the past year?

  • What are my top three most fulfilling moments of the year?
